Housing stability is an urgent need for our residents who have suffered the loss of employment as a result of the pandemic. A recent Seattle Times article cited that one in five renters in our region will be unable to meet their July rent. This is especially desperate for the previously homeless poor and vulnerable individuals and families who have finally found safe haven in 60 Catholic Housing Services’ properties across western Washington.
Catholic Housing Services’ goal is to provide rental assistance to impacted households, allowing them to maintain their homes and avoid any potential eviction and subsequent homelessness while they struggle to get back to work. To accomplish this, we need your help.
Beyond the need for rental assistance and continued social services, the pandemic has accelerated the misfortunes for the low income struggling families, individuals, seniors and farm workers in our care. More and more, committed on-site staff are helping provide residents with emergency needs such as essential food and household supplies, custodial care and safe hygiene protocols.
Thanks to the generosity of a CHS donor, all gifts up to a total of $20,000 will be matched! Even one individual or family’s return to homelessness would be a tragedy that you can help us avoid. Your gift of just $50 translates to an individual tenant’s monthly portion of a subsidized unit. Add the matching gift and you have provided that individual two months of secure housing! A family’s monthly portion is $250. Again, with the generous match – two months of safe housing for a vulnerable family.
I know that most all in the community have suffered some measure of heartbreak as a result of the pandemic. I know too that asking for your help at this critical time may be a stretch but may also be the very gift that saves a farmworker family or medically fragile elder from once again facing the hardships of homelessness. Your support in these tragic times is more than a financial gift but a gift of hope and promise for those we serve. Thank you.
With sincere gratitude,
Catholic Housing Services, Agency Director
Providing Housing and Hope
“With the coronavirus, it’s been even scarier to be disabled and live in my car. I’ve been evicted before and didn’t think I would ever get housing but these people worked so hard to get me off the street and into a safe apartment. I am so grateful and not as scared. Thank you.” – Northwest Housing Client
“I have been given so much support from all those who work in it that gave me an inspiration to never give up and keep pushing me forward. I can honestly say that if it wasn’t for CCS/CHS and the wonderful things they did for me and what they do for our community I probably would be on the streets or worse. Thank you so much for all the help and support.” – Southwest Housing Client
“I’m talking to my kids now, I can pay my own rent, I don’t drink anymore, and I’m proud of myself for once. I will be 41 in a couple of weeks, and I didn’t think this would ever happen again! So to Noel House, I appreciate everything you’ve done and how you’ve helped me become a better woman.” – King County Housing Client
