A decade of Hospitality, Housing, Hope, and Healing

Nativity House started 45 years ago when a Jesuit priest and two volunteers opened a small store front with only a pot of coffee, a loaf of bread, and a jar of peanut butter. Opening on Christmas Eve, it was a shining light on one of the darkest and coldest days of the year, welcoming those who had nowhere else to go. Over the years, it grew to serve hundreds of individuals experiencing homelessness each day. 10 years ago, Nativity House took another leap – merging with the Tacoma Avenue Shelter and the Hospitality Kitchen to open a new facility on Hilltop. Open 24/7, we now offer meals, day and overnight shelter, behavioral health, referrals to substance use treatment, connection to the housing system, and a myriad of enriching activities that uplift our guests and affirm our shared humanity.

In 2025, we will be raising the funds to refresh the Nativity House building and essential equipment, offer new ways to uplift the inherent humanity of our guests, and, of course, pathways to housing to our friends and neighbors without homes. Our goal is to honor the vision you had when you supported the opening of New Nativity House 10 years ago, and we hope you will be able to join us once again as we look toward another decade of hope.
