Welcome the HEN Program!
The Housing and Essential Needs (HEN) program is a statewide program in Washington and provides access to essential needs items and potential rental assistance for low-income individuals who are unable to work for at least 90 days due to a physical and/or mental incapacity and who meet income and resource requirements.
HEN Services may include:
- Limited rent and utility assistance
- Move-in costs
- Personal health and hygiene items
- Cleaning supplies
- Transportation assistance
While the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) determines eligibility for the referral to the HEN program, actual eligibility for rental assistance and essential needs items is determined by the Department of Commerce through a network of homeless and homeless prevention service providers, such as Catholic Community Services, and is dependent on funding and programming available at each location and county.
Catholic Community Services operates the program in King, Kitsap, and Thurston counties. The programs each operate a little differently, and have different contacts, so for more information, please visit the page for the county you are interested in.
