Katherine’s and Rita’s Houses are programs of Catholic Community Services located in Kent and Auburn. The Houses are innovative service-enriched transitional housing programs for homeless, adult women in recovery from substance use. We offer structured, family style living designed to assist women to return to independent living as productive members of the community. Residents may stay up to two years and each resident develops a personal success plan tailored to her individual needs. Our primary goals are to help these women find permanent, affordable housing, maintain sobriety and reduce recidivism rates.
Hear below from just a few of the many women whose lives have been transformed through their time at Katherine’s and Rita’s Houses!
Living at Katherine’s House was the best thing for my recovery. It taught me how to have female relationships. Katherine’s House helped me figure out how to become a functional adult in society. Katherine’s House gave me the foundation to focus on my recovery. – SF
Thinking back two years ago, when I moved into this house, I remember mostly feeling unsure, scared, and lost. I had no idea how I was going to fix what I thought was forever broken. Today, I am a whole new person. I sometimes feel amazed at how far I have truly come. I never dreamed that I would be where I am now. In the last 21 months I have accomplished just about every single goal I have set for myself. I reunited with my daughter and I have a beautiful relationship with her adopted family. I got my driver’s license, bought my own car, graduated from drug court, and I am no longer on probation in any county! I work for CCS doing something I absolutely love. I get to show up and be present for the people who need me which I could never do in the past. I have stability, people who believe in me, for what feels like the first time in my life. I did this with the help of Gretchen and K House staff. Without them I would not have known how to put one foot in front of the other. I’ve learned so much from this program and it has given me a truly meaningful life. I’m grateful that when I did not believe in myself I had the support of the women here who did. I’m grateful I walked through that door 21 months ago, immediately felt the love and decided to stay. It is the best decision I have ever made. – EP
Rita’s House has been such a blessing for me! They have helped me get the counseling I need and get my life back on track and reunite with my family. I have been clean and sober for one year and eight months and I learned so much. It has been an amazing experience and I couldn’t have done it without everyone here at Rita’s! – RL
I’ve been an active destructive, chaotic, isolated alcoholic/chronic relapse for 30 years and I’ve lived in other sober houses that lacked support. CCS and staff give me the time, kindness, compassion, SAFETY, support, empathy and understanding to work through trauma, addiction, and deep-rooted long term toxic habits. It takes over a year to detox and process to reach a headspace where you can think clearly and focus, to find the right medication or therapy. Staff and CCS provide us with the space and support to do just that. They encourage us to find, create, and live a life that is productive and happy mentally and physically. – VS
