Nativity House Shelter is looking for casserole teams to help cook meals for Nativity House Shelter guests.
Making the world a better and kinder place starts in your home kitchen with your family’s favorite lasagna, breakfast bake or tuna noodle casserole recipe.
This is a great project for large friend groups, service organizations, Girl Scout/Boy Scout troops and faith-based groups.
Casserole projects can be done entirely offsite but do require having a group leader established as an official Volunteer Services volunteer.
Project scope & scale:
Nativity House Shelter has a large trailer-size walk-in freezer with space to store hundreds of frozen casseroles. We can never have too many casseroles in the “casserole bank”. We will use them.
The Nativity House Shelter Kitchen serves 3 meals per day for 167 shelter guests. All meals and services are provided free of cost. This is made possible largely by volunteer support and community food donations.
Guidelines:
- The group leader is responsible for food safety and making sure that the team is following food safety best practices (example: use of food safety gloves).
- Groups are responsible for supplying their own ingredients and supplies.
- All casseroles must be dropped off fully frozen and labeled with the dish name, the date made/frozen, cooking instructions and a complete ingredient list
- Groups are asked to use disposable casserole tins for easy clean up and to protect volunteers from losing their favorite casserole dish.
How to get started:
If you are interested in becoming a casserole team leader, please complete the online volunteer registration form or contact meganed@ccsww.org to request a volunteer registration form. Hard copies of registration materials can be mailed to your address. Registration forms can also be sent to you via email or fax.
Basic Requirements:
- Group leaders must be at least 18 years old, however volunteers under age 18 may serve as co-leaders (offsite only)
- Group leaders must pass a background check (processed at no cost to volunteers)
- Group leaders must have or be willing to obtain a Washington State Food Handlers Permit and keep it up to date
- Group members making food offsite must wear food safety gloves when handling food.
